Schaben has solid sophomore year for ISU softball

 AMES -- Highlighted by Big 12 Conference Player of the Week honors in late April, Iowa State University sophomore Logan Schaben batted .203 and hit six home runs this past spring in helping the Cyclone softball team finish 23-33 overall and 4-14 in the Big 12 for sixth place.
 An infielder and designated hitter for ISU, Schaben is the daughter of Gary and Jackie Schaben, rural Portsmouth, and a 2016 graduate of Harlan Community High School. The finance and marketing major was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Softball First Team in 2018, requiring a GPA of 3.20 or higher.
 Serving mostly as the designated hitter, Schaben played in 31 games as a sophomore, including 26 starts, and went 15-for-74 at the plate with 11 runs, nine RBI, six homers, one triple and one double. She drew six walks and struck out 20 times. Schaben was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week on April 23 after leading Iowa State to a series win at Texas Tech. She batted 4-for-8 on the weekend with two home runs, a double, four RBI and three runs scored, also walking twice to accumulate an on-base percentage of .600. Her slugging percentage in the series was a robust 1.375.
