Rasmussen scores 41 in HCHS win vs. Atlantic

HARLAN -- When two of the Hawkeye Ten’s top players combine for 56 points and 31 rebounds in a head-to-head showdown, it’s usually the story of the game. On Thursday night in Harlan, however, it was merely an intriguing sub-plot.
Harlan Community point guard Caleb Rasmussen stole the show with a memorable 41-point, six-assist performance as the fourth-ranked (3-A) Cyclones led wire-to-wire in a 79-68 (non-conference) win over No. 10 Atlantic.
HCHS completed a season sweep of the Trojans, starting the game with a 16-5 run, scoring 12 straight points to go ahead 38-20 in the second quarter and holding off comebacks the rest of the way.
Rasmussen, who entered the night averaging 7.1 points per contest, reached 25 by the half - five more than his previous career high - and kept on adding after the break. Not known for his outside shooting, the 5-11 junior knocked down 4-of-7 three-pointers but did most of his damage on aggressive drives to the basket, making 15-of-21 field goals overall.
