Petersen leads HCHS to triangular sweep

Cyclones regain momentum going into Friday’s sectional tournament at Denison

SHENANDOAH -- The Harlan Community boys golf team evened up its final dual record at 4-4 and perhaps gained some momentum for postseason play Tuesday night (May 9) with a triangular sweep over Shenandoah and Red Oak at the American Legion Country Club (par 35) in Shenandoah.
Led by Ross Petersen’s runner-up medalist round of 37, which included a key eagle on the par-5 seventh hole, HCHS outshot the host Mustangs by a single stroke, 156-157, while Red Oak came in with a 195.
Kevin Campbell added a steady round of 39 for the Cyclones and Troy Nowatzke and Jay Swanson both carded 40s. Shenandoah’s Steven Martin won top medalist honors with a 36 but none of his teammates were able to break 40.
