Osborn fills in as girls’ assistant for Kohorst

GLENWOOD (Feb. 13) -- Longtime Harlan Community boys head basketball coach Mitch Osborn took on a new role Wednesday night, serving as an assistant coach for the Cyclone girls in their regional game at Glenwood.
Osborn was filling in for Mark Kohorst, who missed the game due to a health matter. Many of the Cyclone players wrote “For Ko” on their arm or hand. Kohorst has been an assistant coach for Klaassen during all seven years of his head coaching career, which includes two state titles and one state runner-up finish. He was previously an assistant coach for Osborn.
“Obviously we would have loved to have Ko here tonight. It’s too bad he couldn’t make it,” said Klaassen, pausing to collect himself. “He thinks the world of these kids. It’s tough.”
Klaassen added that he enjoyed coaching with Osborn again for one night. The two men have a long history of success together, dating back to their player-coach days at Pomeroy-Palmer.
