One for the record books
CRESTON -- At some point in time Friday night, football’s inventor of the form tackle stopped rolling over in his grave, curled up in the fetal position and covered his eyes.
It was that much of a full-fledged offensive showcase at Panther Field as 10th-ranked Creston/Orient-Macksburg outscored Harlan Community 70-49 in the District 7 (Class 3-A) opener for both teams.
Creston/O-M senior standout Chase Shiltz amassed 507 all-purpose yards on the night and had a hand in eight of his team’s 10 touchdowns as the Panthers (3-0, 1-0) never trailed and beat HCHS (1-2, 0-1) for the fifth time in the last seven meetings. Creston set a school record for points scored and racked up 542 yards from scrimmage.
The Cyclones gained even more offense, finishing with a school-record 657 total yards, but still lost by three scores. It was the most points allowed by a Harlan team since 1919.
