Mulligan signs with Briar Cliff

HARLAN -- Harlan Community senior Preston Mulligan signed a national letter of intent on February 6 to play football at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City.
Mulligan put together an outstanding senior season at quarterback last fall, earning second team All-State honors and first team All-District recognition after passing for 2,676 yards as the Cyclones finished 8-3 and reached the quarterfinals of the Class 3A playoffs. Mulligan threw 30 touchdown passes against just six interceptions while completing 56.7 percent of his passes (157-for-277). The 6-foot-2, 193-pounder also rushed for five touchdowns, netting 52 yards. Mulligan set two school records during the year with 2,275 regular-season passing yards and 416 passing yards in a single game vs. Glenwood. His five TD passes against both Denison and Atlantic fell one short of another single-game mark. As a junior, Mulligan was one of four HCHS quarterbacks to make at least one start, completing 24-of-53 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns with four interceptions.
Briar Cliff, which played its first varsity football game in 2003, finished 6-5 under head coach Dennis Wagner last fall to notch the program’s first-ever winning season.
