Lingle’s 35 points help IKM-M hold off Wheelers

MANNING (Nov. 28) -- IKM-Manning boys basketball coach Keith Wagner wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from his team in Tuesday’s season opener vs. Audubon, but he certainly liked what he saw.
Led by Alex Lingle’s career-high 35 points in his first varsity start, the Wolves combined a great opening quarter with a strong finish at crunch time to beat the Wheelers 59-53 in an entertaining Western Iowa Conference contest.
Returning just two starters - Jared Johnson and Austin Ahrenholtz - from last year’s 16-7 squad, IKM-M built a 24-8 lead by the early stages of the second quarter, then held off several Audubon charges the rest of the way.
The Wheelers took their only two leads of the game during the middle of the fourth period - 44-42 and 48-47 - but the Wolves responded with a timely 7-0 run and made five of their last six free throws to seal the deal.
“It’s a great way to start the season. I’m really proud of the guys,” Wagner said.
