Lady Vikes win home tourney with pair of shutouts

 AVOCA (June 1) -- The AHSTW softball team placed first in its three-team, round-robin tournament last Saturday, beating Fremont-Mills 13-0 in four innings and also shutting out Sidney 5-0 in the afternoon. Sidney beat F-M 13-1.
 The Lady Vikes’ five and six hitters - Kailey Jones and Ally Meyers - both finished 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI vs. Fremont-Mills while the eight and nine batters - Tristin Heiny (2 RBI) and Natalie Hagadon (1 run, 1 RBI) - both went 2-for-3.
 AHSTW scored five runs in the first inning and blew the game open with seven in the fourth to support Jones in the circle. Jones allowed two hits, walked none and struck out six. Paige Osweiler doubled and drove in two runs for the Lady Vikes, Katie Anzalone tripled and Madison Heiny added a single and three RBI.
 AHSTW played the full seven innings against Sidney and broke open a close game with four runs in the sixth to win 5-0. Ally Meyers (five innings) and Jones (two) combined on a five-hit shutout and did not walk a batter.
