Lady Vikes soccer ousted by talented Tri-Center squad
NEOLA -- For a second straight year, the AHSTW girls soccer season ended at the hands of an athletic and highly-skilled Tri-Center squad in the second round of regionals.
Struggling to string together more than one pass at a time on Friday night, the Lady Vikes allowed four first-half goals and were defeated by the eighth-ranked Trojans 5-0 in a Class 1-A, Region 1 semifinal.
Tri-Center freshman Sage Schroder scored left-footed goals from nearly the identical spot in the ninth and 24th minutes while junior Tillie Heim and senior Alyssa Baatz also scored first-half goals from the same vicinity near the top of the 18-yard box.
The Trojans continued to control possession for much of the second half but were unable to score until Cassidy Robinson made it 5-0 with 12:29 remaining. T-C had one second-half shot deflect off the far post, one hit the crossbar and another saved on a nice play by Lady Vike goalie Morgan Eckmann.
AHSTW, which finished 5-10 overall, did not attempt its first shot until midway through the second half when senior Olivia Kock missed just wide on a right-to-left cross.
The Lady Vikes also lost to Tri-Center 7-0 in last year’s regional semifinals and lost by the same score in this year’s regular-season match on May 12.
