Lady Vikes finish in top four of home tournament

 WALNUT -- The AHSTW volleyball team placed second in Pool A and reached the championship bracket of its home tournament last Saturday (Aug. 26), finishing in the top four overall with a match record of 2-2.
 The Lady Vikes compiled a team kill efficiency of .234 on the day, served 85.3 percent with 17 aces and were competitive in both of their losses.
 AHSTW went 2-1 in Pool A (at Walnut), beating Denison-Schleswig and Atlantic in two sets and losing to pool champion Earlham in three, 21-18, 18-21, 12-15. In Pool B (at Avoca), Clarinda (3-0) and Riverside (2-1) were the top two teams and then traveled to Walnut for the championship bracket.
 In one semifinal, Clarinda ousted the Lady Vikes in two hard-fought sets (22-20, 21-17) and later beat Earlham in three for the title, 18-21, 21-14, 15-4.
 Statistical leaders for AHSTW included Kate Wise with 20 kills, Katie Anzalone with 19 and Kinsey Scheffler with 17. Scheffler (.419) and Anzalone (.366) both had solid efficiencies above 35 percent.
