Lady Vikes fall in 9 innings at Treynor

TREYNOR (July 5) -- AHSTW fought gamely but ultimately came up short in last Wednesday’s Class 2-A regional quarterfinal softball game at Treynor, losing 6-4 in nine innings when Sydni Huisman delivered a two-out, two-run single for the Cardinals.
The Lady Vikes trailed by two in the seventh and were down to their final out when Katie Anzalone (error) and Paige Osweiler (single) both reached safely and scored on another Treynor error to tie the game.
Two innings later, though, Huisman came through for Treynor (25-7), which also beat Underwood 3-1 on Friday to advance to Monday’s regional final at third-rated Interstate 35.
AHSTW, which split a pair of regular-season games vs. the Cardinals, finished 14-11 overall.
Anzalone and Osweiler both finished 2-for-4 at the plate and combined to score three of AHSTW’s four runs.Madison Rasmussen hit a double while Sydney Zimmerman, Sami Kloewer and Baylee Meyers had singles.
Haley Constable pitched the whole game for the Lady Vikes, allowing eight hits and six runs (two earned). She walked none and struck out three.
Coach Muxfeldt will lose three seniors in Constable, Rasmussen and Kloewer but is optimistic about her team’s potential for continued improvement in 2018.
