IKM-M girls win first round regional; Anthofer, Jorgensen also advance
AREA (May 13) -- IKM-Manning advanced as a team while Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton and AHSTW both qualified one individual for the next round at three separate girls regional golf tournaments on Monday.
Placing three girls in the top six, IKM-M easily won the Class 1A, Region 2B meet at the Coon Rapids Country Club with an impressive score of 392. Coon Rapids-Bayard (418) and Glidden-Ralston (448) also advanced to Monday’s Region 2 final tournament, which has been moved to the Atlantic Golf and Country Club.
Also competing in Atlantic will be Exira-EHK junior Jacey Anthofer, who qualified by placing third at the Region 2A meet on Anita’s Crestwood Hills Golf Course. Anthofer, who placed 12th at the 1A state tournament last year, shot a 94 with scores of 47 on both the front and back nines.
AHSTW senior Emma Jorgensen, meanwhile, advanced to Monday’s Region 1 final tournament at Moville after placing first with an 87 at the Class 1A, Region 1C meet at Neola’s Quail Run Golf Course. Jorgensen shot nine-hole scores of 42 and 45 on the day.
IKM-Manning was led by sophomore Kamaya Jacobsen - number six on the Wolves’ card - who stepped up with a second-place round of 93 at Coon Rapids, trailing medalist Whitney Reever of G-R by two shots. Also for the Wolves, Hannah Mullen placed fifth with a 98, Bre Muhlbauer was sixth with an even 100 and Neeka Jacobsen rounded out the counting scores with a 101.
Exira-EHK placed fourth as a team in Anita with a 431, trailing regional final qualifiers Boyer Valley (401) and Griswold (406) and third-place CAM (411). In addition to Anthofer’s 94, Mary Carroll and Lauren Hansen both added rounds of 108 for the Spartans.
AHSTW had just two girls in competition at Neola - Jorgensen’s 87 and Grace Luna with a 138.
