IKM-M girls top Panthers in double OT thriller
DENISON (Feb. 16) -- It was everything that a season rubber match and sixth meeting in two years is supposed to be.
And following two overtimes and 40 full minutes of basketball, IKM-Manning kept its season alive Friday night in Denison with a 61-59 girls regional semifinal win over Logan-Magnolia
The game was tied 52-52 at the end of regulation and 57-all after one O.T. before Kia Rasmussen’s four free throws proved to be the difference maker in the second extra session.
The 14th-ranked (Class 2A) Wolves improved to 18-4 overall and were set to take on No. 11 West Sioux (20-3) in Monday’s 7 p.m. Region 8 final at Mapleton.
Logan-Magnolia, which defeated IKM-M 60-58 in an overtime regional game last year, finished 19-4.
Kia Rasmussen finished with a game-high 18 points for the Wolves, hitting 3-of-5 three-pointers while adding six assists and five steals. Peyton Gross also came up big with 17 points (8-of-10 shooting) and five rebounds while Payton Sporrer hit her first two treys of the year and totaled 10 points and six rebounds.
