IKM-M girls re-break 4x800 school record

DES MOINES -- The IKM-Manning track teams didn’t take home any medals from the 2017 state meet last weekend, but improvement was made in two out of three events, including one school record broken for the second time in a week.
On Thursday afternoon (May 18), the IKM-M girls 4x800 relay team finished fourth in their section and 13th out of 24 Class 2-A qualifiers, clocking a school-record time of 9:58.83. Squad members included Payton Sporrer, Gabby Cadwell, Kia Rasmussen and Shyanne Sporrer.
The same quartet set the school record at 10:01.72 at the May 11 state qualifying meet after finishing in 10:28.91 at the Tri-Center Invite on May 8.
On Saturday morning, Shyanne Sporrer, a junior, returned to the blue oval and finished 15th in the 2-A 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:26.78. Last year, Sporrer ran just a half-second faster to place seventh in Class 1-A.
The Wolves’ other state qualifier was junior Jared Johnson, who tied for 16th in Friday’s 2-A boys high jump by clearing five feet, 10 inches.
