IKM-M girls post dominant regional win, 93-52

Fast start carries Wolves past Ridge View, setting up regional rubber match vs. Logan-Magnolia

MANNING (Feb. 13) -- With a rubber match against Logan-Magnolia looming on the horizon, IKM-Manning girls basketball coach Gene Rasmussen was hoping his team was squarely focused on the task at hand Tuesday night - a Class 2A regional quarterfinal game vs. Ridge View.
It didn’t take long to see that Rasmussen had nothing to worry about.
Hitting on all cylinders offensively and playing their usual brand of hard-nosed defense, the 14th-ranked Wolves used a 17-0 run to build a 20-5 lead in the first six minutes, then opened the second half with nine straight points and pulled away for an impressive 93-52 victory.
IKM-Manning (17-4) shot 58.5 percent for the game and forced 31 Raptor turnovers, setting up a Region 8 semifinal clash vs. fifth-ranked Lo-Ma (19-3) on Friday night (7:00 p.m.) in Denison. The Wolves and Panthers split their two regular season meetings in Western Iowa Conference play, each winning at home.
Shauna Reitan and Kia Rasmussen, who both scored 12 first-half points, led the Wolves with 21 and 18, respectively, against Ridge View. Rasmussen had an outstanding floor game overall, adding 12 assists and eight rebounds.
IKM-Manning’s post players found success as well, with Payton Sporrer scoring 15 points and Caitlin Muhlbauer scoring 13 on 6-of-9 shooting. Alexa Ahrenholtz and Reitan combined for more than half of the Wolves’ 23 steals with six each.
