IKM-M boys move closer to state tournament berth

Wins over Boyer Valley, Tri-Center set up Class 1A substate final against unbeaten Remsen St. Mary’s

 CARROLL (Feb. 23) -- The IKM-Manning boys basketball team moved within one win of the state tournament on Friday night, defeating Tri-Center 51-42 in a Class 1A, District 15 final played at Kuemper Catholic.
 The game was postponed 24 hours due to inclement weather and the Wolves’ Substate 8 final vs. third-ranked Remsen St. Mary’s (24-0) was also called off Saturday and rescheduled for Monday night (7:00 p.m.) at Denison.
 IKM-M (15-8) used a big second quarter to key Friday’s win over Tri-Center, outscoring the Trojans 18-8 following an 8-8 first-quarter deadlock. The Wolves made their 10-point halftime lead stand up in the second half, led by 14 total points from Jared Johnson and 13 from Alex Lingle.
 Not known for their three-point shooting, IKM-M hit 7-of-15 long range shots vs. the Trojans. Johnson made four of his eight attempts from beyond the arc and Colby Keller came off the bench to hit two out of three.

IKM-M 57, Boyer Valley 41
 The Wolves used a 10-2 second-quarter run last Tuesday night (Feb. 20) in beating Boyer Valley 57-41 in a district semifinal at Manning.
 Alex Lingle scored 19 points in the victory and Johnson added 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
 Austin Ahrenholtz finished with nine points, including a three-pointer and a three-point play during the pivotal 10-2 run.
