Holloway’s medalist round leads HCHS girls to victory

HARLAN (April 5) -- Playing her first round of competitive golf in three years, Harlan Community senior Lexie Holloway shot a medalist round of 49 on Thursday, leading the Cyclone girls to a 20-stroke win over Denison-Schleswig (222-242) in the season opener at the Harlan Golf and Country Club.
East Mills also attended the meet but did not have enough golfers to post a team score.
Holloway, who was last out for golf as a freshman, shot par on the fifth and ninth holes en route to her nine-hole total of 49. HCHS senior Delaney Kelly, also playing for the first time since she was a freshman, added two pars as well, including a chip shot for par on hole 3 en route to a 56. The Cyclones also counted Haley Manz’s round of 57 and a 60 by Kayla Powers.
“I thought we scrambled well all night and tried to get out of danger when we put balls in the trees and not ideal situations,” said HCHS coach Willie Baughman.
“There is a lot of improvement we can do just from making solid contact and trying to work at getting the ball straighter and with more distance. I’m excited to see how much we can improve and see where this team can go."
