Hinz hat trick leads HCHS girls past Creston

Cyclones win 5-1, open regional play at home Tuesday

HARLAN (May 25) -- A Kylee Hinz hat trick led the way Friday as the Harlan Community girls soccer team snapped a nine-game losing streak and picked up some momentum for postseason play with a 5-1 home win over Creston.
Savannah Parman and Hannah Bissen also scored goals for the Cyclones, who improved to 2-14 overall and finished 2-5 in Hawkeye Ten Conference play - good for sixth place out of eight teams. Creston, which scored first in the match, dropped to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in the H-10.
HCHS will host Riverside (2-11) on Tuesday (May 29) in a Class 1A, Region 3 quarterfinal at  6:00 p.m. The winner will face AHSTW (7-7) or 15th-rated Des Moines Christian (13-2) in Friday’s semifinal round, which is currently slated to be played at Des Moines Christian (Urbandale).
After being held to two or fewer goals in its first 15 games, HCHS scored five times Friday, the result of better passing and finishing at the net. The Cyclones sent some nice through balls downfield to set up scores.
Creston actually outshot the Cyclones 14-11 overall and 8-6 in shots on goal. Hinz led HCHS with four total shots, followed by Parman with three and Bissen two. Senior goalie Makenzie Jones finished with seven saves.
