Heithoff penalty kicks lift Cyclone boys past Eagles 2-1

UNDERWOOD (May 6) -- Michael Heithoff’s second penalty kick of the game with just 1:14 to go broke a late tie and lifted Harlan Community past Underwood 2-1 in non-conference boys soccer action Monday night.
A handball in the box call on Underwood set up Heithoff’s successful PK, which extended the Cyclones’ winning streak to five games and improved their record to 9-6. The Eagles, who tied the game just three minutes earlier on a 13-yard goal by Collin Brandt, have now lost four in a row and stand at 4-8.
“It was a cold, rainy night and we played OK but had a hard time finishing,” said HCHS head coach Dave Voge, whose team finished with a 24-8 shot advantage (13-6 shots on goal).
“We pressed a couple of times in the box like we wanted the team to do and we got a couple of penalty kick attempts that we converted. We had a good amount of shots and shots on goal, but needed them to be of better pace and quality.”
Heithoff converted his first penalty kick with 27:34 left in the first half after Jordan Fink was fouled on his drive in the box. Heithoff led HCHS with eight total shots and four on goal. Josh Felix and Cole Kramer both took four total shots, with a combined five shots on goal.
Defensive leaders included Dalton Gross, Lucas Brace and Jacob Schechinger with eight intercepts each and Matt Kloewer with seven. HCHS goalie Konner Leinen finished with five saves.
