Heilesen deals HCHS softball team second shutout loss

HARLAN (June 18) -- Denison-Schleswig ace pitcher Sarah Heilesen shut out the Harlan Community softball team on just one hit Monday and helped her own cause with a homer and three RBI as the 7th-ranked (4A) Monarchs blanked the Cyclones 6-0 to sweep the season series.
Heilesen walked two and recorded nine strikeouts in the game, which started at 11 a.m. to avoid the late day storms. She joined Sophie Stover of Winterset (1-hitter, 12 K’s) as the only pitchers to shut out HCHS so far this season.
Offensively, the Monarchs scored five of their six runs with two outs off Cyclone junior Morgan Schaben (6-9), who allowed seven hits and four walks in five and two-thirds innings and struck out eight.
Schaben had retired 10 straight batters when a two-out single and a walk set the stage for Raegan Andersen’s fourth-inning RBI single that made it 2-0.
Heilesen, who already singled home a run in the first, lifted a towering two-out, two-run homer down the left field line in the fifth. One inning later, again with two outs, Alex Mohr went to the opposite field and drove a two-run homer to right to cap the scoring.
Schaben singled in the fourth for the Cyclones’ only hit while Emily Brouse and Kennadi Carey both drew a walk.
