HCHS sweeps doubleheader with Le Mars

 HARLAN -- Harlan Community swept Le Mars in a baseball doubleheader last Friday (July 7), winning game one 9-0 and holding off the Bulldogs 4-3 in the night cap.
 HCHS committed just one error in the two games, outhit Le Mars 19-9 overall and got solid starting pitching from Brett Sears (6-0) and Nick Foss (3-1).
 Game one was all Cyclones as they scored two runs each in the first four innings and totaled 12 hits. Foss homered for the second straight game - giving him three on the year - while Jared Moser went 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI. Leadoff man Dillon Sears was never retired, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and three runs scored. Brett Sears added two singles and two RBI and pitched five scoreless innings for the win, allowing three hits and three walks while notching three strikeouts.
 Game two was much closer as the Cyclones held a 2-1 lead before scoring two key runs in the sixth. Connor Bruck led off with a double and Moser and Ryan Doran had RBI singles. Le Mars’ Keaton Candor hit a two-run homer in the seventh to make it 4-3 before Bruck was able to finish out his second inning of relief and record his fourth save.
