HCHS sweeps Denison on Senior Night
HARLAN -- The start was sluggish and the finish a bit shaky, but Harlan Community was plenty dominant between as part of a 25-14, 25-14, 25-18 Senior Night volleyball sweep of Denison here Thursday.
The victory clinched at least a tie for fifth place in the final Hawkeye Ten standings as HCHS improved to 16-15 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The Monarchs dropped to 8-16 and 2-8, respectively.
The Cyclones fell behind 5-2 in the opening moments and didn’t take their first lead until 10-9 in set one. They finished the set on a 13-3 run, however, and cruised to a 21-8 lead in set two.
The third set started out as a runaway as well - HCHS led 10-1 and later 19-7 - but the Monarchs rallied behind the hitting of Jacque Ingram and pulled within 21-18 before the Cyclones regrouped to score the final four points.
