HCHS softball team takes two at Red Oak

 RED OAK (June 27) -- The Harlan Community softball team swept a doubleheader at Red Oak Thursday night by scores of 8-0 and 8-4.
 Morgan Schaben belted a pair of home runs in game one and also pitched a four-hit shutout with one walk and 13 strikeouts, improving her record to 18-6.
 Tianna Kasperbauer (5-0) pitched game two, allowing eight hits and three earned runs with seven strikeouts and one walk.
HCHS 8, Red Oak 0
 Aurora Miller, Schaben, Kasperbauer and Miranda Goetz finished with two hits each in the first game as the Cyclones outhit the Tigers 12-4 and did not commit an error on defense.
 Schaben opened the scoring with a solo shot in the top of the first and added a two-run blast during the team’s four-run fourth - her seventh and eighth home runs of the season.
HCHS 8, Red Oak 4
 The night cap was much more competitive as Red Oak outhit the Cyclones 8-7 and both sides committed three errors. The difference in the outcome came down to 11 walks issued by Tiger pitching, including three with the bases loaded that forced in runs.
 Schaben drew three of the walks, giving her five in the two games, while Kate Heithoff, Madison Schumacher and Madison Kjergaard all walked twice. Julia Schechinger supplied three sacrifice flies to lead the team with three RBI.
 Schumacher went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Heithoff, Schaben, Jordan Heese, Kasperbauer and Goetz all singled once. Heithoff scored four runs.
