HCHS softball notches first sweep vs. Fillies

 SHENANDOAH -- The Harlan Community softball team welcomed back last year’s ace pitcher and recorded its first doubleheader sweep of the season Thursday night, beating Shenandoah 11-4 and 16-2 (six innings) to improve to 7-8 inside the Hawkeye Ten Conference.
 Lexi Larsen and Logan Schaben both homered on the night and combined for 10 hits and 11 RBI as HCHS (11-14 overall) exploded for 40 hits and 27 runs overall.

HCHS 11, Shenandoah 4
 The Cyclones took a 7-0 lead after an inning and a half of game one and cruised to the 11-4 victory as Hayley Hopkins pitched a complete game, allowing 10 hits and two walks while striking out four.

HCHS 16, Shenandoah 2 (6)
 Leading 6-2, the Cyclones blew open the night cap with 10 runs in the top of the sixth to win by the rule, finishing with 21 base hits.

Ames Classic
 The Cyclones finished 1-3 at the Ames Pinch Hitters Classic over the weekend, beating Gilbert 4-1 on Friday and losing to Ames (5-0), West Delaware (9-3) and Norwalk (8-1). See Friday’s News-Advertiser for details.
