HCHS routs Carroll

 CARROLL -- Harlan Community opened defense of its Class 3-A state baseball title with an 11-run first inning on Monday night (May 22), eventually finishing off a young Carroll team 14-0 in five innings.
 Connor Bruck went 3-for-3 at the plate for HCHS while Dillon Sears, Brett Sears and Kyle Schmitz all had two-hit games, including a double by Schmitz and a Dillon Sears triple. Nick Foss also tripled and Ryan Doran doubled as part of the Cyclones’ 14-hit attack.
 Dillon Sears, who signed with NCAA Division I Western Illinois last fall, posted a team-high four RBI and was one of four Cyclones to score twice. Jared Moser (two stolen bases) and Brett Sears both drove in a pair.
 The win on the mound went to senior Jacob Croghan, who pitched a five-inning, one-hit shutout to collect his first varsity win. Croghan walked one and struck out five.
