HCHS rallies fall short vs. unbeaten Lynx

HARLAN -- The Harlan Community Cyclones didn’t quite find a way to defeat Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln here Tuesday night, but they became a better basketball team for trying.
Battling from behind the entire game - even turning a 16-point third-quarter deficit into their only lead with 2:31 to go - the third-ranked (Class 3-A) Cyclones ultimately came up short, 64-57, against the sixth-ranked (4-A) Lynx.
A poor start to both halves proved costly in the end as HCHS fell behind 17-4 out of the gate - a margin it cut to 36-31 at halftime - and was then outscored 14-3 during the first five minutes of the third quarter.
A red-hot shooting display by senior reserve Josh Kloewer fueled a 21-4 Cyclone surge that was capped by Nolan Heese’s steal and layup to put Harlan up 55-54, but the lead was short-lived as Lynx junior Tyler Myers’ fourth three-pointer of the night put A.L. back ahead to stay.
Tre’Vonte Jones, who led all players with 18 points, Devon Logan and Tony Bonner combined to hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final :35.5 and the Lynx (6-0) made two key defensive stops to secure the win.
