HCHS pulls away from Des Moines Roosevelt

 HARLAN -- Ryan Doran went 3-for-3 at the plate and Kyle Schmitz pitched five scoreless innings of relief for his eighth win Tuesday night as Harlan Community downed Des Moines Roosevelt 6-1 in non-conference baseball action.
 Putting together quality at-bats during the late innings, HCHS scored one run in the fifth and three in the sixth to pull away from the Class 4-A Roughriders (18-20).
 Connor Bruck opened the three-run sixth with a double and Dillon Sears was hit by a pitch. Following a Jared Moser sac bunt, Brett Sears and Joshua Cheek both put balls in play to drive in runs and Doran’s RBI single made it 6-1.
 Doran also doubled and scored in the fifth inning and hit an RBI single during the Cyclones’ two-run third.
HCHS 9, CB AL 2
 COUNCIL BLUFFS -- The Cyclones also picked up a 4-A win on Monday night by outscoring Abraham Lincoln 9-2 in Council Bluffs.
 Joshua Cheek (6-1) pitched five quality innings for the win, allowing three hits and one earned run. Connor Bruck finished up with two innings of two-hit relief.
 Cheek helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 with two RBI at the plate. Brett Sears singled and also drove in two runs while Jared Moser doubled and scored twice.
