HCHS places fourth at Plattsmouth Invite

Cyclone grapplers set for conference meet Jan. 26

 PLATTSMOUTH, NEB. (Jan. 19) -- The Harlan Community wrestlers finished fourth out of 14 teams in a tough Plattsmouth Invitational last Saturday as runners-up Oscar Olmos and Derec Weyer led a group of 11 Cyclone place-winners.
 Millard South, one of four state-ranked Nebraska teams in the field (No. 2 in Class A), claimed five individual champions and won the team title with 252.5 points. Blair (No. 4, Class B) placed second with 200 points and Grand Island Northwest (No. 2, Class B) took third with 187, followed by HCHS (149.5) and Plattsmouth (142).
 Olmos, ranked 10th at 145 pounds in Iowa’s Class 2A, recorded two pins before falling just short against Auburn’s Kole Ligouri, 4-3, in the championship final. Weyer (ranked fifth at 285) had a similar day to Olmos, pinning three opponents but losing 5-3 to Plattsmouth’s Trevor Nielsen in the title match.
 The only Cyclones to win their final match of the day were Carter Bendorf at 170 and Ethan Lemon at 126. Bendorf went 2-1 with two pins to place third while Lemon placed fifth despite going 4-1 with four pins.
 Luke Freund (106), Jesse Schwery (182) and Nathan Henry (195) all placed fourth for the Cyclones while Luke Musich (120), Dalton McKinley (138), Thomas Frederick (160) and Joey Arkfeld (220) each placed sixth.
