HCHS nabs district qualifier spot by a stroke
ATLANTIC -- Battling through two weather delays, a significant temperature drop and strong north winds during the last half of the meet, Harlan Community didn’t play its best golf last Friday but managed to keep its season alive at the Atlantic Country Club.
Counting four scores in the low-to-mid 80s, HCHS finished with a third-place 334 in its Class 3-A Boys Sectional Golf Tournament, holding off Carroll by one stroke for the meet’s third and final district qualifier berth.
Atlantic recorded four of the top five individual scores and easily won the sectional team title with a 302, followed by Glenwood with a 319. Since the host school placed in the top two, by rule the third-place Cyclones also advanced to this Friday’s 3-A District Tournament at Majestic Hills Golf Course in Denison.
