HCHS hosts Perry in regional softball opener

HARLAN -- The Harlan Community softball team will be looking for its first regional win since 2015 when its hosts Perry in a Class 4A, Region 2 first round game Thursday (July 11) at 5:00 p.m. The contest was originally slated for a 7:00 p.m. start but was moved up two hours so as not to conflict with the staging of the Shelby County Fair Parade.
HCHS took a 26-6 overall record into Monday’s final two regular season games at Denison while Perry stood at 5-22 with one game left. Thursday’s winner will play at Boone (15-11) in a regional semifinal Saturday night at 7:00.
Though initially disappointed the Cyclones did not earn a first-round bye, head coach Brooke Wilson says the team will look to make the most of playing one final home game Thursday and take a “one game at a time” approach into the tournament.
