HCHS girls win five golds at Earlham meet

Bruck sets meet record in 100 hurdles; Schlueter posts two ‘PRs’ for Exira-EHK

 EARLHAM -- Allison Bruck’s meet record time in the 100-meter hurdles marked one of five Harlan Community gold medals on Tuesday night as the Cyclone girls placed second to Panorama at the Earlham Cardinal Co-Ed Relays.
 Bruck, who ranks among the state’s top eight in her feature event with a time of 15.36 seconds, clocked 15.72 to break Earlham’s meet and stadium records. She later teamed with Sidney Craig, Alyssa Sotelo and Chloe Hansen to win the 4x100 relay with a season-best time of 53.13.
 Additional Cyclone wins came from Molly Gubbels in the 400 dash, Abby Alberti in the open 800 and the 4x200 relay. Gubbels (1:03.88) and Alberti (2:35.35) both established new personal bests.
 In the final point standings, Panorama matched the Cyclone girls’ five golds and outscored them 150-119 for the team title. ACGC won three events and placed third with 91. Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton scored 10 points and finished 12th.
 The Spartan boys were also part of the meet and placed eighth out of 13 teams with 49 points, scoring 12 times in 11 events. Earlham won the boys team title by a 165 to 97.5 margin over Des Moines Christian.
 Exira-EHK senior Brady Schlueter had a great night in the hurdles, recording two ‘PRs’ as he placed second in the 400 lows (59.47) and third in the 110 highs (16.71). Schlueter also anchored the Spartans to third in the shuttle hurdle relay with a season-best time of 1:06.36.
