HCHS girls run win streak to five during busy stretch

Cyclones avenge St. Albert for fifth win in eight days

HARLAN -- All this time, perhaps the Harlan Community girls basketball team simply needed to play a game every day.
Whatever the cause, the Cyclones appear to be heating up at just the right time.
Winning its fifth straight game on Tuesday - all in a span of eight nights - HCHS outlasted a banged up Council Bluffs St. Albert squad, 50-47, to move over the .500 mark for the first time all season.
Cyclone junior Nicole Lange, who did not play in the team’s 67-37 loss at St. Albert last month, led HCHS in scoring for the third straight game with 19 points and the Cyclones held the Saintes’ top scorer, Bailey White, to just two as they overcame a slow start to improve to 10-9 overall.
St. Albert, which was playing without two starters (Teagan Blackburn, Sydney McLaren) and one of its top reserves, suffered a fourth straight loss and dropped to 12-8 on the season.
Both teams had already finished their Hawkeye Ten Conference slates - St. Albert going 6-4 and HCHS at 4-6.
