HCHS girls place third at Regional

 CARROLL -- The Harlan Community girls golf team finished just five strokes away from qualifying for the state meet last Monday (May 23), placing third out of 11 teams in the Class 4-A, Region 1 Final Tournament held at the Carroll Country Club.
 Creston shot a fantastic score of 349 to claim the team title by 30 strokes over second-place Spencer, which also advanced to state with a 379. HCHS finished with a 384 to easily place third ahead of Lewis Central (415), Carroll (417) and Denison-Schleswig (419), but only the top two teams and top five individuals qualified for the 4-A Girls State Golf Tournament May 31-June 1 at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames.
 Junior Maggie Langenfeld paced the Cyclones with an 18-hole score of 93 that tied for seventh overall but was still six shots back of fifth place. Amber Gross finished 11th with a 94 and HCHS also counted Maddie Bak’s 98 and a 99 from Paige Powers. Ellen Keast and Kristen Ferry rounded out the scorecard with totals of 104 and 106, respectively.
