HCHS girls place third in 4-A regional golf tourney

 DENISON -- The Harlan Community girls golf team finished just one spot below state meet contention on Monday, May 22, placing third in the Class 4-A, Region 1 Tournament at Denison’s Majestic Hills Golf Course.
 Led by Maggie Langenfeld’s 18-hole round of 96, which put her just two shots away from qualifying for state as an individual, the Cyclones posted a score of 408 to come in third out of 12 teams.
 Humboldt, which went on to win the 4-A state title this week, placed first in the regional with a 372 while second-place Carroll also qualified for state with a 389. Rachael Danielson of Greene County won top medalist honors with a round of 85.
 The Cyclone scorecard was paced by Langenfeld, who tied for seventh in the field with her 96 (48-48). Only the top five individuals advanced to the state meet.
 Additional HCHS scores included Kristen Ferry’s 101, Haley Manz 105, Kayla Powers 106 and Ellen Keast 113.
 Langenfeld and Ferry were the Cyclones’ only two seniors on a roster of five.
