HCHS girls fall to fifth-ranked Saintes

HARLAN -- St. Albert took advantage of a strong first-half wind at its back, scoring four goals in the first 19 minutes and handing the Harlan Community girls a 6-1 loss at Merrill Field on Monday.
HCHS tied the game, 1-1, in the fourth minute as Jenna Brelje scored off her own intercepted pass, but the fifth-ranked (1-A) Saintes put in four more goals before the half and added a sixth score in the final minute of the match to improve to 4-1 in the Hawkeye Ten and 5-5 overall.
HCHS slipped to 1-3 inside the conference (2-6 overall).
“We gave them a lot of chances on corner kicks and they were very good at finishing near the goal. They also scored on two deflections off of our own players and one was an own goal,” stated HCHS head coach Jared Boysen.
