HCHS girls crack victory column at Atlantic

 ATLANTIC (Jan. 5) -- The seal on an elusive win column finally cracked last Saturday for the Harlan Community girls basketball team.
 One night after allowing a season-high 79 points at St. Albert, the Cyclones played better defense and used a big second quarter to get past Atlantic 48-34 for their first victory of the 2018-19 season.
 The game was played in Atlantic’s middle school gym, where HCHS improved to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference. The Trojans, who beat St. Albert before Christmas break, dropped to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in league play.
 The Cyclones outscored Atlantic 19-5 in the second quarter to build a 27-12 halftime lead and made it stand through the final 16 minutes as the Trojan girls shot just 21 percent from the field.
 Jocelyn Cheek hit three 3-pointers for HCHS, shot 7-of-11 from the field and scored a game-high 19 points. Ashley Hall (two treys) finished with 11 points and four assists while Chloe Hansen had eight points, six rebounds and seven steals.
