HCHS faces Go-Hawks on Friday; Assumption, Heelan also alive in 3A

 DES MOINES (July 27) -- The Class 3A state baseball semifinals will include three of the same teams from a year ago when action commences late Friday morning at Principal Park.
 At 11:00 a.m., top-ranked and second-seeded Harlan Community (32-3) will face this year’s newcomer, seventh-ranked and sixth-seeded Waverly-Shell Rock (34-7). In the second game, third-ranked and top-seeded Davenport Assumption - last year’s champion - will meet sixth-ranked and fourth-seeded Sioux City Bishop Heelan in a matchup of 32-10 squads. The winners are slated to meet for the 3A championship on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
 The HCHS vs. Waverly game is a rematch from the 2015 state title game, won 11-1 by W-SR. The Go-Hawks surprised some folks on Tuesday by scoring six first-inning runs off Carlisle ace Nic McCay and holding on for an 8-5 quarterfinal victory.
