HCHS baseball hits 25-win mark with sweep at Le Mars

 LE MARS (July 6) -- Winning 4-0 and 14-9, Harlan Community swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Le Mars on Friday, improving to 25-3 with three games left in the regular season.
 The top-ranked (Class 3A) Cyclones got a combined four-hit shutout from Brett Sears and Riley Kohles in game one, then stormed out to a 13-3 lead and hit seven doubles in the night cap.
 Le Mars, which has now lost six straight games and 11 out of 15, dropped to 11-17 overall.

 Sears (7-1) made his final regular-season start a good one, pitching five innings of one-hit ball, striking out 10 and walking just two before Kohles polished off the shutout with two scoreless innings of relief.
 The Cyclones scored all four of their runs and had four of their seven hits in the top of the fifth, each run scoring with two out on an RBI single by Ryan Doran, a Nick Foss bases-loaded walk and Luke Schaben’s two-run single. Jacob Bartley and Jared Moser both singled and scored in the fifth as well.
HCHS 14, Le Mars 9
 The Cyclones led 9-3 after two innings and 13-3 after three and a half in game two, totaling 14 hits with a home run and seven doubles.
 Derec Weyer, who entered the night with just seven varsity at-bats, went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two walks and two runs scored.
 Two-hit games were also recorded by Jared Moser (double, home run), Doran (1 double), Foss and Joey Moser (1 double). Bruck doubled, walked twice and scored three runs.
