Green Out Night raises $3,000

HARLAN -- Approximately $3,000 was raised for the Shelby County Relay for Life through the efforts of Harlan Community’s annual Green Out Night, held in conjunction with Tuesday’s HCHS vs. St. Albert baseball and softball games.
The event was hosted by this year’s six senior players - Nolan Heese, Kyle Juhl, Brett Croghan, Logan Schaben, Emily Juhl and Julia Sorfonden. Funds were raised through the sale of Green Out t-shirts as well as Strike Out Cancer bracelets and root beer floats, with materials donated by Hy-Vee and Fareway. There were also silent auction items and “Cookies for a Cure” sold by Kara Rueschenberg and Jacob Bartley. Additional funds were raised through the sale of pre-ordered t-shirts.
Special on-field ceremonies were held prior to each varsity game. Each Cyclone player was introduced with a cancer survivor or someone walking in memory or honor of an individual stricken by cancer. Ceremonial first pitches were thrown out by Joel Osborn and Jaxon Rold. Osborn is a former Cyclone four-sport athlete and a five-year cancer survivor. Rold is an HCS elementary student currently battling cancer.
