Goodwin, Nelson star in Spartan win

 ELK HORN -- Jayden Goodwin had a break out offensive performance with 126 rushing yards and two touchdowns last Friday night and also intercepted two passes on defense as the Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton football team evened its record at .500 with a 41-6 Homecoming win vs. Essex.
 The Spartans are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in 8-Player, District 7. Essex dropped to 0-5 and 0-2, respectively.
 Goodwin’s two-TD night included a 55-yard run and a rushing average of 11.5 yards a carry. Trey Nelson, meanwhile, caught a pair of touchdown passes from Josh Pettepier covering 56 and 34 yards while converting all four of his PAT kicks.
 Pettepier finished 4-of-7 through the air for 102 yards.
