Foss, Clay improve feature events at Council Bluffs meet

HCHS and AHSTW boys finish seventh and eighth

COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Harlan Community’s Nick Foss won the long jump with a new personal best and AHSTW sprinter Gage Clay placed in the top three of two events to highlight area performances at Thursday’s Council Bluffs Boys Track Invitational.
The second annual meet, held at the Gale Wickersham Athletic Complex, saw seven meet records fall and a host of impressive times and distances go in the books.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton won the team title, leading the nine-team field with six gold medals and 131 points. Glenwood won a tight battle for second place with 96 points, followed by Lewis Central (93) and KP-WC (91). HCHS placed seventh with 40 and AHSTW was eighth with 31.
The Cyclones placed nine times in eight events overall, led by Foss’ winning leap of 21 feet, 6.5 inches in the long jump. Foss is directly on the bubble in his quest to qualify for the Drake Relays and will have two more meets this week to improve on his latest mark.
Clay, meanwhile, placed second to SB-L standout Brady Wall in the 200-meter dash - running a season-best time of 22.47 - and placed third in the 100 behind Wall and LC’s Ken McMahan.
The Vikings placed seven times overall, including six season or personal-best performances. Individual ‘PRs’ were posted by Dalton Fischer in the 3,200 run (10:47.79, 4th place), AJ Sieh in the discus (146-4, 4th place) and Rhett Welsh in the 400 (55.4, 6th place). AHSTW also improved its times in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, placing fourth in both events.
