Falkena leads Lady Vikes to third place in home meet

 AVOCA (Sept. 11) -- Sophomore Chloe Falkena earned a 13th-place medal and four of her teammates finished in the top half of the field here Tuesday as the AHSTW girls cross country team claimed third place in their annual home meet at the Avoca Golf and Country Club.
 Atlantic won the girls’ team title with a score of 28, led by individual champion Taylor McCreedy and four other Trojans in the top 10. Logan-Magnolia, led by sisters Courtney and Taylor Sporrer in second and third, earned second as a team with a 46 and the Lady Vikes posted a 96.
 Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton, paced by Shelbi Wilson in 19th, finished sixth out of eight full-squad girls teams with a 149.
 The AHSTW boys (231) placed seventh out of nine with their first team score of the year as Collin Shutters led the way in 41st out of 115 competitors.
 The boys’ top three featured Atlantic (44), Red Oak (59) and St. Albert (70) while Treynor’s Jerry Jorgenson ran away with the individual title in 17:09.
 Falkena clocked a time of 23:13 for the Lady Vikes, who also counted the places of Jade Draman (17th), Julia Kock (20th), Holly Hoepner (26th) and Claire Denning (38th).
