Exira-EHK baseball team earns pair of wins
ELK HORN (June 29) -- Cole Burmeister pitched six scoreless innings and also had a big night at the plate Friday to lead Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton to an 8-0 baseball win over Glidden-Ralston.
Limited by a rib muscle problem early in the season, according to coach Trevor Miller, Burmeister (2-1) was able to go six innings for the second consecutive start and allowed just three hits. He walked two and struck out nine. Josh Pettepier worked a scoreless inning of relief.
Offensively, Burmeister went 3-for-3 with a double, stole four bases and scored two runs. Pettepier added two hits and Trey Nelson hit an RBI double during the Spartans’ five-run sixth. Exira-EHK also drew six walks, including four during the big sixth inning.
Exira-EHK 9, Griswold 8
GRISWOLD (June 30) -- The Spartans rallied in the seventh inning and won at Griswold 9-8 Saturday afternoon to improve their overall record to 6-10.
Trailing 6-5, Exira-EHK scored four runs in the top of the seventh and narrowly held on for the win as Josh Pettepier came on to strike out the final two batters.
Trey Nelson (1-0) pitched two and one-third innings in relief of Tyler Petersen and earned the win.
Nelson, Cole Burmeister and Stephen Malloy all had two-hit games for E-EHK while Pettepier (four RBI), Anthony Kingery and Cole Madsen each hit a double.
