Errors haunt Cyclone softball vs. Saintes

HARLAN -- With the end of the regular season looming closer, the Harlan Community softball team is still searching for a level of defensive consistency that will keep them competitive on a nightly basis.
One of the Cyclones’ biggest downfalls all summer - defensive miscues - reared its ugly head again Tuesday as HCHS committed 10 errors in a 13-8 home loss to St. Albert.
Ranging from dropped pop-ups to errant throws to first base, the Cyclone mistakes simply snowballed during the first half of the game and led to nine unearned runs for the Saintes.
The low point occurred in the top of the fourth - just after HCHS had scored three runs to pull within 4-3 - when the Cyclones made an error on five consecutive plays to open the door to a four-run frame. St. Albert added three runs in the fifth to build an 11-3 lead that proved insurmountable.
Both teams finished the game with 10 hits, but the Saintes committed just two errors and swept the season series.
