Eight area athletes on All-State soccer list

 AREA -- Five players from AHSTW and three from Harlan Community were named to the 2019 Boys All-State Soccer teams released in June by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
 The list of area honorees includes four first-teamers: Seth Kiesel, Brayton Tuma and Adrian Herrera from AHSTW and Levi Culp from HCHS.
 AHSTW and HCHS both reached the substate final round of the playoffs in Class 1A and 2A, respectively, this past season. The Vikings finished 18-3 overall and won the Western Iowa Conference title outright, setting school records for wins and goals (114). The Cyclones finished 14-8 overall and went 6-1 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference, sharing the league title with Lewis Central and Denison-Schleswig.
 All-state award winners were as follows.
Class 1A - First Team
Seth Kiesel, AHSTW, jr., Defender: Kiesel was a mainstay in the Viking defense, which allowed 25 goals in 21 games and posted seven shutouts. Kiesel attempted just one shot on the year but helped set things up for a high-octane scoring attack.
Brayton Tuma, AHSTW, sr., Forward: Tuma finished his career as the Vikings’ career record holder with 64 goals, including a single-season record 31 this past season to go along with 10 assists. Tuma attempted 116 total shots (79 on goal).
Adrian Herrera, AHSTW, sr., Goalie: Herrera notched 103 saves against 14 goals allowed for an excellent save percentage of 88.0. His seven shutouts in goal set a new school record for one season.
Class 1A - Second Team
Blake Osbahr, AHSTW, sr., Forward: Osbahr scored 21 goals to go along with a team-high 17 assists, taking 91 total shots (51 on goal). He broke the career school record for assists with 42 and fell just shy of the old career record for goals with his 44.
Gabe Madsen, AHSTW, sr., Forward: Madsen finished the year with 29 goals and 10 assists, taking 87 total shots (55 on goal). His 53 career goals now ranks second in program history.
Class 2A - First Team
Levi Culp, Harlan Community, sr., Defender: Culp scored four goals and had two assists this past season but made his biggest mark on defense, consistently ranking among the team leaders in steals and intercepts as HCHS allowed just over one goal per contest.
Class 2A - Honorable Mention
Jordan Fink, Harlan Community, jr., Forward: Fink ranked second on the team with 12 goals and also had four assists, taking 39 total shots (25 on goal).
Michael Heithoff, Harlan Community, jr., Midfielder: Heithoff led the Cyclones in every major offensive category with 14 goals, nine assists, 37 points, 64 total shots and 36 shots on goal. He was also a perfect 7-for-7 on penalty kicks.
