Early treys propel Cyclones over Falcons, 70-45

COUNCIL BLUFFS -- It only took a quarter Tuesday night for the momentum of the Harlan Community and St. Albert boys basketball teams to rotate 180 degrees.
HCHS was trying to bounce back from a rough week following losses by 23 and 14 points, respectively, at Atlantic and Glenwood. St. Albert was flying high on the heels of a 25-point rout of Thomas Jefferson, a 59-50 win over Lewis Central and a five-overtime win at Denison-Schleswig in five-day span.
Tuesday’s reversal of fortunes required just eight minutes as the Cyclones blistered the nets for five first-quarter 3-pointers to build a 27-5 lead and cruise past the Falcons, 70-45, to complete a season sweep.
HCHS (10-8 overall) is still 6-3 in the Hawkeye Ten as the game did not count in the conference standings. Harlan shot 54 percent overall, including 11-of-21 from three-point range, and knocked down 17-of-24 free throws. St. Albert (9-10, 4-6 H-10) shot just 34 percent, including 5-of-21 from beyond the arc, and turned the ball over 15 times.
Logan Klaassen and Shane Chamberlain sparked the Cyclones early, combining to hit five treys in the first quarter.
HCHS coach Mitch Osborn called the first 16 minutes his team’s best half of the year as they went to the break with a 45-21 advantage.
