E-EHK girls fall to Westwood in Region 8 semifinal

 SLOAN (Feb. 15) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton girls led 20-18 at halftime before being outscored 39-12 the rest of the way last Friday in a 57-32 Class 1A regional semifinal loss at Westwood.
 The Spartans finished the season at 17-6 overall while the 14th-ranked Rebels improved to 19-4. Westwood lost Monday’s regional final vs. top-ranked Newell-Fonda 79-44.
 Sophomore Tatum Grubbs and freshman Macy Emgarten led Exira-EHK with 12 points each, Ellie Schultes scored six and Kamryn Waymire had two. The Spartans shot less than 20 percent overall, making 9-of-47 field goals. They were much better at the free throw line, hitting 12-of-15.
 Senior Leslie Caniglia led Exira-EHK with 12 rebounds.
