District track meets set for Thursday night

REGIONAL -- Qualifiers for Iowa’s 2017 State Track and Field Championships will be determined Thursday night (May 11) when Co-Ed State Qualifying Meets are held statewide at 4:00 p.m.
The area’s four track schools will compete at three different venues. The Harlan Community girls and boys squads will be part of an eight-team Class 3-A meet at Denison. IKM-Manning and AHSTW will compete in a 12-team 2-A meet at Missouri Valley and Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton will be part of a 15-team 1-A meet at Audubon.
State qualifiers will be determined using the following format. In 3-A and 2-A, the top two place-winners in each event will automatically qualify for state, along with the next eight best performances statewide. In Class 1-A, only the first-place individual or relay will earn an automatic state bid, along with the next 14 best performances statewide. Events must place in the top eight of their State Qualifying Meet to be eligible for an “at large” qualifier spot.
