Daeges joins Nebraska-Iowa BB Hall of Fame

    OMAHA, NEB. -- Harlan Community baseball coach Steve Daeges was inducted into the Nebraska-Iowa Old-Timers Baseball Club Hall of Fame last Saturday, March 18, in a banquet held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Omaha.
 Daeges was one of five honorees on the night, joining the Hall of Fame along with Frank Pecha, Jim Thomas, the late Merl Eberly and the late Loren Babe. The Nebraska-Iowa Old-Timers Baseball Club Hall of Fame now consists of 120 members.
 Daeges, who was also named to the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January of 2016, has been the Harlan Community head baseball coach for the last 23 seasons. During that time, the Cyclones have qualified for the state tournament 14 times, won three state titles (1996, 2003 and 2016) and also finished as state runner-up three times. Daeges’ career record now stands at 609-206 for a winning percentage of .747.
 Daeges, a 1972 Harlan Community graduate, also played many years of high-level amateur baseball throughout his adult life, competing in the All-American League based out of Omaha. Last fall, Daeges traveled to Florida to compete with the Omaha Indians 53+ Legends Division team as part of the Roy Hobbs World Series.
