Cyclones sweep Glenwood as win streak climbs to 11 games

 GLENWOOD (June 14) -- Harlan Community ran its baseball winning streak to 11 games on Thursday night, sweeping a doubleheader at Glenwood by scores of 12-11 and 11-1 (five innings) to improve to 13-2 overall and 12-0 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference.
 Game one featured an 18-run fifth inning in which HCHS broke a 2-2 tie with 10 runs in the top half and the Rams answered right back with eight. The night cap was much more one-sided as the third-ranked (3A) Cyclones scored four runs in both the fourth and fifth frames to end the game by the 10-run rule.
 HCHS senior Jared Moser went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in each game while junior Luke Schaben was 2-for-4 in each game after being moved up to the leadoff spot in the batting order.
 Cyclone junior Riley Kohles picked up two pitching wins on the night, working an inning of relief in game one and starting game two.
 Glenwood, which totaled 10 errors in the twin bill, slipped to 3-10-1 overall and 3-7 in the Hawkeye Ten.
HCHS 12, Glenwood 11
 The Cyclones’ 10-run fifth saw the first 10 hitters reach safely, including four walks, a hit batsman and a dropped fly ball. Ryan Doran’s two-run double was one of six Harlan hits in the inning.
 Glenwood quickly made it a game again by scoring eight runs on three singles in the bottom of the fifth. Ten of the first 11 Rams reached first base safely as HCHS pitchers Tyler and Luke Schaben combined to walk seven batters in a third of an inning.
 Game one featured a combined 23 runs, 19 hits, nine errors, 21 walks and three hit batters. The Cyclones won despite issuing 14 free passes.
HCHS 11, Glenwood 1 (5)
 Jared Moser (3-for-4) and Nick Foss both hit two-run singles late in the game and Sears finished 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs and two RBI.
 Kohles (2-1) earned his second win of the night by pitching four innings of three-hit ball and surrendering just one run.
